Frequently Asked Questions

Treatment Program
The Herrington Recovery Center provides education, support and therapy in a home-like setting to assist residents as they develop personal, family and career lifestyles free of addictions. The program utilizes the components of 12-step programs as a basis for treatment.

Through individual and group sessions as well as family education, residents confront their defense mechanisms and identify strengths and weaknesses in order to understand their illness and the solutions to begin their recovery process.

A unique five-day evaluation also is available for professionals who interface with licensing boards and other regulatory agencies. To answer concerns that may be raised by employers, licensing boards or family members, a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment recommendations are provided.

Treatment Team
Medical Directors Charles Engel, M.D. and Michael Goldstone, MD lead the treatment team. Other members of the team may include:

  • Physician
  • Psychiatrist
  • Certified alcohol and drug counselors
  • Registered nurse
  • Registered dietitian
  • Residential assistants
  • Certified therapeutic recreation specialists
  • Certified ropes course instructors
  • Master’s level art therapist

Aftercare
Residents receive substantial aftercare planning and employment counseling. In addition to being referred to community-based support groups, they may be referred to weekly group therapy for six to twelve months and meet with their physician and/or case therapist regularly. The Herrington Recovery Center also can submit documentation to professional associations to facilitate successful return to the workplace.

Alumni Association
