Theodore E. Weltzin, MD, FAED, is a leading authority in the treatment and research of eating disorders. He is a board-certified adult psychiatrist who has specialized in the field of eating disorders treatment for more than 20 years and holds several leadership positions and academic posts.
As medical director of Eating Disorder Services at Rogers Memorial Hospital since 2001, Dr. Weltzin has provided direction in all areas of development and clinical oversight of one of the largest eating disorder treatment centers in the country. He has trained over 100 clinicians in the field and developed innovative programs addressing the unique needs of eating disorder patients, especially patients with eating disorders and anxiety and males with eating disorders.
Dr. Weltzin serves on the board of directors for the Eating Disorders Coalition for Research, Policy and Action and the Rogers Center for Research and Training. He is a fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders and a member of the American Psychiatric Association. He is an assistant clinical professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He previously held faculty appointments at the University of Wisconsin Medical School and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
He has contributed to the research and treatment of eating disorders authoring and co-authoring numerous peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and invited book chapters. He has lectured extensively in North America and Europe to professional and academic audiences, including the 2010 International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals Conference.
Dr. Weltzin is recognized by his peers, serving as an editorial board member for the journal “Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention” and in the roles of reviewer and consultant for the first American Psychiatric Association “Practice Guidelines for Eating Disorders” published in 1993. He was awarded the designation of Fellow by the Academy for Eating Disorders in 2011 for his contributions to the field of eating disorders.
