What to bring and what to leave at home

To help make admission a smooth process, we’ve put together some guidelines about what patients can expect during the admissions process—including what to wear and what to bring. By carefully reading the guidelines and following these instructions, patients will arrive with the necessary documents and personal items needed to make their time at Rogers as comfortable as possible.

Please note these are a general set of guidelines organized by levels of care. Each treatment has different restrictions regarding what items may and may not be brought onsite. Your intake specialist will cover more details with you when your admission is scheduled.

As part of admission, staff members will ask to examine belongings, including clothing. This is a routine procedure to maintain the safety of all patients. We will give any unsafe items to the patient's family to take home or place them in locked storage until they leave treatment.

Smoking restrictions

Smoking, vaping or tobacco/nicotine use of any kind are not permitted on any property owned or leased by Rogers Behavioral Health, with one exception: adults admitted to residential treatment may smoke in designated outdoor smoking areas.

With major positive life changes taking place during treatment, this may be an ideal time to stop smoking. If this is a goal, we can help with smoking cessation.

You do not need to bring any personal hygiene products. • Prohibited items: Any item restricted by law; candles and incense; essential oils and diffusers; food and soda; TVs, stereos and boom boxes; video games; radios or alarm clocks with cords; glass containers, bottles, picture frames with glass, mirrors; aerosol cans; matches or lighters; all straight razors, including disposables (the hospital has electric razors available for your use); items containing alcohol, such as mouthwash; laptop computers, cell phones, iPods or any electronic device with a camera or recording capabilities (unless you disable the camera); clothing that is torn or imprinted with messages related to drugs or alcohol or that shows disrespect to anyone; clothing items with strings (the strings can be removed; however, we will not be able to replace them); hoodies or hooded sweatshirts; slip-on cowboy boots; hair pins or clips; watches or jewelry; body piercings; personal blankets, pillows and stuffed animals (extra blankets are available on the unit).
  • Supplement restrictions: Due to the risks associated with some herbal, homeopathic and other similar remedies, Rogers has made the decision to limit the use of these types of products. Rogers has approved the supplements and herbal products in this Supplement Restrictions list for use in the inpatient setting and residential programs.

Our inpatient eating disorders care has additional detailed guidelines. If you have been approved for admission to one of these specialized inpatient programs, please print out the appropriate admissions information sheets:

Because your bedroom will have limited storage space, please bring only necessary clothing items and use on-site laundry facilities. If you have questions, please call 800-767-4411, and ask for our admissions department.

Outpatient care

Each treatment has specific guidelines to ensure a safe and confidential environment. Common guidelines for all specialized outpatient treatment care include:

  • Leave valuables at home
  • Wear casual, comfortable clothing appropriate for the season
  • Shoes and a shirt must be worn at all times, due to health regulations
  • We recommend closed toe shoes for safety purposes; no skate shoes, other wheeled footwear, or slip-on cowboy boots will be permitted
  • Clothes or jewelry promoting or displaying violence, gang involvement or disrespect to any group, advertisements of taverns, or use of alcohol/drugs are not permitted
  • Sexually provocative clothes, such as bare midriffs, low-cut shirts, short shorts, low rise pants or shorts displaying underwear, etc., may not be worn
  • Straights razors are prohibited
  • Essential oils and diffusers are not allowed

Decisions regarding appropriateness are ultimately up to Rogers staff. We appreciate your cooperation.
