Day or Evening Treatment

Day or evening treatment provides a critical link from inpatient care, a supplement to outpatient therapy, or in some cases an alternative to inpatient treatment. This level of care is designed to provide treatment to individuals with chemical dependency in a safe and supportive setting, while maintaining involvement with home, family, work or school activities. Treatment is available in the day or the evening to fit each individual’s needs. Length of involvement is determined by the length of time required to complete treatment goals.

Rogers Memorial Hospital offers day treatment services at three locations in southeastern Wisconsin for adults with substance abuse or dependency. Primary treatment goals are to achieve abstinence and sustain recovery.

Patients are given the option of enrolling in either a day or evening/weekend session:

  • Daytime Session – Services offered seven days a week from 9 a.m. to noon. (Milwaukee)
  • Evening/Weekend Session – Services offered Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. (Milwaukee, Oconomowoc, Kenosha)

Admissions and Insurance Coverage

This treatment service can effectively treat adult males and females who meet the following criteria:

  • Have a primary diagnosis of substance abuse and/or dependency
  • Require a structured program that cannot be provided in a less intensive setting
  • Demonstrate a willingness to receive treatment and a desire to recover
  • Meet medical criteria for day treatment services

An initial screening with the prospective patient starts the admission process. Based on a review of this screening, a physician will recommend an appropriate level of care. After the review, admissions staff and share the physician’s recommendation.

As a courtesy to prospective patients, admissions staff will contact the individual’s insurance carrier to obtain a quote of insurance benefits. Benefit availability, service providers, and medical necessity criteria vary with each insurance plan. We recommend that potential patients check with their medical insurance carrier to determine what is covered and if there are any exclusions. After admission, patient care specialists can provide assistance with remaining questions or concerns.

Treatment Team

On admission, each patient meets with members of the multidisciplinary treatment team for a comprehensive evaluation, which is used to develop a personalized plan of care to address identified issues.

Members of the treatment team may include:

  • Addiction medicine physician
  • Intermediate clinical supervisor
  • Registered psychiatric nurse
  • Certified substance abuse counselor

Treatment Components

The principles of 12-step recovery programs provide the therapeutic and psychoeducational framework for our treatment. Treatment components may include:

  • Group therapy
  • Individual therapy
  • Patient and family education
  • Medical monitoring and medication management

Continuing Care and Discharge Planning

Patients are expected to attend community support meetings during treatment and to obtain a sponsor. Prior to discharge, an individualized personal recovery plan is developed to further strengthen the recovery. All patients are encouraged to continue participation in community 12-step programs after discharge. A patient’s continuing care plan may also include referral to an outpatient provider. Rogers Memorial Hospital also provides a weekly aftercare group on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The treatment team monitors each patient’s progress and level of participation. If, based on the patient’s behavior, the program is no longer a helpful or appropriate form of treatment, or if the patient needs a different level of care, then the treatment team will explore options with the patient and his/her family.

Should they become necessary, Rogers Memorial Hospital provides short-term acute stabilization of psychiatric symptoms and detoxification services on its inpatient units.
